A funny story with a dark twist

“You couldn’t find a more fashionable hat?”
“I was within budget.”
“…and again. See last question.”
“My head was cold, I like this hat, everything else was within budget.”
They stared at each other and he shrugged and tugged his cuffs. “You know I look good, Girl!”
Althea rolled her eyes. She wasn’t about to tell him anything.
“It’s all for nothing anyway. Now turn yourself see through and go inside!”
“How come I always have to break into the government buildings?”
“Because you can pass through walls and vaults and you’re invisible and when I use my powers I TURN into metal.”
He frowned.
“And I’m the fucking boss!” she put her hands in her peacoat pockets, the vibrant red standing out in the largely uniform federal district. She shrugged down into her scarf, the wind blowing her hair around. “Go.” her muffled voice said. “And get some coffee too.”
“Yeah, I’ll just steal some white man’s coffee…”
“You’re the greatest! I love you!”
He rolled his eyes, looking around. He began to fade from view, except for the hat on his head, which Althea snatched off.
“See! I told you!”
“I haven’t had it treated yet -.”
“Bernard, if you don’t get your Fantastic Four wanna-be ass in that building -.”
“Damn! God! Yes Ma’am!”
She could not longer see him properly, but she took a pair of sunglasses out of her pocket and put them on. She could see his heat signature.
She watched his go right on in and past security, losing sight of him as he phased through a wall, going deeper inside.
She sighed.
Damn he was fine.
